"Dehuman: Works by Daniel Erban, Dennis Jones, Ed Pien and Balint Zsako"
2006-01-13 until 2006-02-12
Chatham Cultural Centre, Thames Art Gallery
Chatham, ON, CA Canada

The Thames Art Gallery presents Dehuman: Works by Daniel Erban, Dennis Jones, Ed Pien and Balint Zsako, curated by Mark Laliberte. The Thames Art Gallery is dedicated to promoting the understanding, appreciation, conservation, and enjoyment of the visual arts in the community of Chatham-Kent for present and future generations. The Gallery places emphasis on public arts education programming and multidisciplinary exhibitions programming.

The exhibition is travelling to Gallery Lambton in Sarnia and to WKP Kennedy Gallery in North Bay.

Dennis Jones states, "Most of my work explores aspects of vanity. The current series plays with our desire to accumulate recognition and appreciation with vacant, gratuitous trophies, possessions signaling wealth and status as in The Greatest… The Best…The Most…I deliberately use garish colors and a varnish that creates a mirror-like surface reflecting the trophies—like Narcissus looking at his reflection. In this series, I consider each smiling or forlorn child-like figure, sticky and wet with thick paint, to be a trophy."

Dennis Jones has been a Premiere Portfolio Member at absolutearts.com since 2004. View more of his work at http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/d/dennisjones/.
