"Call for Artists: International High School Student Art Contest"
2006-01-18 until 2006-05-01
Rotary Club of Otorohanga
Otorohanga, , NZ New Zealand (Aotearoa)

The major project to be carried out by the Rotary Club of Otorohanga during 2006 will be this Student Art Contest.  Club Members will invest several thousand hours of their time in organising this truly International Event. This investment in the artistic talents of our young people will have untold returns for our future generation. The International High School Student Art Contest is open for entries 1 Feb until 1 May 2006. The first prize is a three weeks fully funded trip to New Zealand and $US750 spending money. The contest is open to all High School Students - public, private and home schooled and is especially open to hospitalised and special needs youngsters.

This project is an initiative of The Rotary Club of Otorohanga, New Zealand.  As such it is NOT a project organised by ROTARY INTERNATIONAL. Many Rotary Clubs across the Globe are assisting our Club by participating in the running of this competition.  We wish to acknowledge the wonderful support of these many thousands of individual Rotarians.

The trip to NZ will be home hosted and includes visits to Art Museums and the Film Studios of Weta Workshops - the home of Lord of the Rings and King Kong films. The student will receive memorabilia from the film sets and there is a possibility of spending time with Peter Jackson - the Oscar winning Film Director. If by chance a challenged student wins the contest and can not travel we will make a special cash award in lieu - this concession is only to be made in very special circumstances.

There is an upper age limit of "under 18 years at 14th July 2006" - but no lower age limit - we have an 8 year old high school student entering - and a 12 year old studying university subjects.
