"Shine: A Solo Show of Paintings by Sonya Vine"
2006-01-25 until 2006-02-05
Muse at 269 Gallery
London, , UK United Kingdom

Through February 3, 2006, The Muse at 269 Gallery in London, presents Shine - a Solo Show of Paintings by Sonya Vine. Inspired by light and its dramatic effect on the everyday, Sonya Vine is drawn towards the strong composition of silhouettes and shadows. Composing of atmospheric and thought-provoking images, all the paintings are oil on canvas. The paint is used freely in chiaroscuro, giving a transitory nature to these captured moments. People are often present within her work, walking through the scenes with a familiar poise but with a sense of ambiguity - they are blurred, silhouetted or turned away, hidden and lost in their own worlds.

Exploring the power of shadows, the artist creates suggestive stories by observing our ‘second selves’ through the balance of light and shade.

Sonya Vine has exhibited mainly in London venues, including the Mall Galleries, and has had ten solo exhibitions, most recently at the Waterloo Gallery. Sonya qualified at Cheltenham College of Art with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art Painting and now lives and works in London.
