"The Australian Artery Exchange: Angela Buckingham, Doug"
2006-02-03 until 2006-02-27
Artery - Artist Cooperative of Davis
Davis, CA, USA United States of America

The Australian Artery Exchange is a result of "The Arterys – An International Exchange" hosting artists from The Artery Fitzroy in Melbourne: Angela Buckingham, Doug Hendry, Alicja Kuzmycz, Martha Lord, Greg McGuirk, Chris Nettleship, Nicole Parkins, and Sonya Veronica. The exhibitionis on view February 3-27, 2006. The land of kangaroos and koala bears is calling. Intrigued by our shared name, Melbourne's Artery Firtzroy proposed an exhibit swap in 2006. The Artery in Davis eagerly agreed and now presents eight of their painters and photographers who work under an umbrella name of Project Nine.

Alicja Kuzmycz paints in a darkly cinematic style, delving into the theme of female identity, particularly that of the femme fatale.

Martha Lord's paintings are about mood and space, portraying thoughts through abstract compositions in the form of the square.

Greg McGuirk's work includes architectural photography, painting, and figure drawing.

Chris Nettleship, photographer and acrylic painter, states: "I love it when people smile . . .I guess that I'm looking for a naturalness, that playfulness that comes without you really trying."

Nicole Parkins interprets landscapes in oil depicting feelings and emotions she can't describe in words.

Sonya Veronica, a photographer and painter, is inspired by music, exploring movement and stillness just as notes and rests do in music.

Angela Buckingham, a film artist, and Doug Hendry, an abstract artist, are also part of this group.

The Davis Artery members who are sending work to Australia are: Cathie Duniway, saggar fire ceramic wall piece; Marjan Kluepfel, California poppy quilt; Deborah Lamoreux, photography; Robin Lynde, woven wool blanket; Jeanne Oster, pine needle woven wall piece; Connie Taxiera, quilted leaves; Heidi Bekebrede, ceramic butterflies; and Linnea Wong, blown glass. Marie Brown, Fay Grundvig, and Ann Wright will show paintings.
