"Terry O'Neill: The Art of Photography"
2006-02-14 until 2006-03-03
Chris Beetles
London, , UK United Kingdom

Terry ONeill is renowned as one of the finest photographers Britain has ever produced. The Chris Beetles Gallery is renowned as one of Londons finest private galleries. On 14th February 2006 they combine forces to launch a comprehensive new show of his work. Since 1960 few celebrities of note have escaped Terry ONeills lens. Working for Vogue, Paris Match, GQ, Rolling Stone and countless other magazines his pictures have helped launch the careers of stars such as Brigitte Bardot, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Kate Moss. His oeuvre represents a catalogue of fame over the last 45 years; the National Portrait Gallery holds 65 of his portraits.

This selling show will be the first major photographic exhibition in St Jamess, usually associated with more traditional art, and will celebrate this phenomenal artistic achievement. We will show over 100 of Terry ONeills pictures, juxtaposing classic images with lesser-known, more intimate portraits and those new to the public eye. Subjects will include Sean Connery, Luciano Pavarotti, Audrey Hepburn, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Jerry Hall, Clint Eastwood, Tina Turner, Orson Welles, Janis Joplin, Elton John, Faye Dunaway, Michelle Pfeiffer, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert DeNiro and many more. The centrepieces of the show will be two breathtaking 6 x 4 foot prints of Mohammad Ali training and Frank Sinatra performing. Offering a fascinating insight into the lives of two icons, they are comprised of blown up contact sheets, showing a sequence of images as each superstar prepares, performs and then relaxes.
