"Call for Artists: The Paradox of Gold"
2006-03-01 until 2006-05-01
Ethical Metalsmiths
San Francisco, CA, USA United States of America

A call for entries has been announced for an art exhibition that investigates the paradox of gold. Golden Opportunity, a project of Ethical Metalsmiths, invites artists everywhere to participate in an exhibition about the past, present and future of gold. Artists are asked to think about gold. “Gold. It is a symbol of love, a measure of wealth and accessory to power. It is an element of nature infused with a history of desire. It is aura, allure and agent of catastrophe. Gold.”

To participate, artists make something in any material about any aspect of gold, take a digital picture of their project, fill out a form and submit it online with the image attached. No entry fee is required. Entries must be received by May 1, 2006. The prospectus, information and entry form for Golden Opportunity are on the Ethical Metalsmiths website, www.EthicalMetalsmiths.org

Golden Opportunity will open with a digital projection and reception held in association with the Society of North American Goldsmiths conference in Chicago, on May 26, 2005 after which the exhibition will be online at www.EthicalMetalsmiths.org for approximately six months. Golden Opportunity will also be presented as part of the Association for Contemporary Jewelry conference, Carry the Can, in July 2006, in London, England.

Ethical Metalsmiths was formed for the purpose of stimulating demand for responsibly sourced materials as an investment in the future, and stands for social responsibility, a healthy environment and materials that are consistent with these values.
