The exhibition Reality Check: Why I Left? by Predrag Pajdic sets out to explore questions of emigration, ethnic minorities and displacement. Through his works the artist attempts to come to terms with the sense of displaced national identity as well as to understand the reasons for his immigration from Yugoslavia to the UK in the 80s. In search of memories and points of reference Padjic returned after 15 years of exile to his home to find that the country he left no longer exists. He found the place torn apart with a different name and different borders.
In relation to this, his work deals with themes such as migration, the re-construction of an identity or the struggle for personal freedom. The starting point for his artistic practice comes from the personal desires and fears that remain. The work ranges from interviews with old childhood friends and family to archival material as well as images from public spaces that are no longer recognisable to the artist.
