One of the key aims of the organizers is to provide San Diegans with a unique and truly world-class presentation of photographic art. According to the Curator, Steven Churchill, Our great love of this art form, and being photographic artists ourselves, prompts us to pull out all of the stops in order to showcase a truly excellent presentation of photographic art from around the world, to elevate and promote this art form, and to provide substantial benefits to the exhibiting artists through the significant exposure the Show will provide and through the sales revenue we will achieve for the artists.

About 10,000 people are expected to attend the Art of Photography Show during the eight-week run at the Lyceum Theatre gallery, which is open (free) seven days a week. Gallery hours are 10 am to 5 pm daily. So, the artists and their work will receive a tremendous amount of exposure by the public. The organizers intensive Marketing and Publicity strategy can be viewed here: www.artofphotographyshow.com/marketing.html

The timing of the Art of Photography Show intentionally coincides with two other major arts events in downtown San Diego: ArtWalk, which occurs on the weekend of April 29 - 30, 2006, and the SDAI International Digital Exhibition, which occurs April 29 - June 12, 2006. These three events are very synergistic and are in close physical proximity of each other, thus they will mutually attract people from around the country to view the concurrent exhibits.

The Judge for this exhibition, Arthur Ollman, has served as the Director of the Museum Of Photographic Arts for 23 years, and he has curated over 150 exhibitions and written all or parts of 20 books on various aspects of photography. His own photographic work has been in many one-man and group exhibitions all over the world and is in the collections of more than 30 museums worldwide. Mr. Ollman is very respected in the entire photographic community, so his participation has resulted in the highest caliber photographers from around the world submitting their work for the Show.

An additional aspect of the Art of Photography Show is that it will promote San Diego as a key arts & culture destination in the US, and especially a major destination for viewing photographic art. The Downtown San Diego Partnership is a major supporter and sponsor of the Art of Photography Show, and also the San Diego Commission For Arts and Culture has provided substantial support. A complete list of the Shows sponsors can be viewed here: www.artofphotographyshow.com/pages/sponsors.htm >

The opening reception gala for the artists will be on Saturday April 22, 2006, and will be world-class event! The reception will be from 6 pm to 9 pm. Details about the opening reception can be viewed here: www.artofphotographyshow.com/reception.htm, and a PDF of this information is available here. The media is invited to attend the opening reception gala.

The response from the global photographic community has been huge. Following the Call For Entries, a total of 9517 photographic entries were submitted by 1976 artists from 35 countries around the world. This is the largest number of entries for any juried art exhibition in San Diego history. 104 spectacular pieces were selected by Mr. Ollman to be hung in the gallery space at the Lyceum Theatre. Over $3,000 in cash awards will be given to the top placed entries, including $1,000 for the 1st Place Award. Also, the Show organizers are printing a very elegant Show Catalog, which will contain each image in the Show and info about every exhibiting artist.
