"Could Have Been the Weather: Celebrating the Gallery's Tenth Anniversary"
2006-05-06 until 2006-06-06
Tatar Gallery
Toronto, ON, CA Canada

This spring the Tatar Gallery is celebrating its Tenth Anniversary with a special exhibition marking a decade of dedication to excellence and innovation in contemporary art from Canada and abroad. Since its inception as a gallery of contemporary photography the Tatar Gallery has expanded over the years to become a dynamic host to artists working in all media. The 10th Anniversary exhibition celebrates both the gallery’s past and current curatorial direction. Curated by Christopher Eamon, curator of the Kramlich Collection in San Francisco and Director of New Art Trust, Could Have Been the Weather promises to deliver a critical and challenging look at the affective aspects of materiality in art and how it negotiates the viewer’s relationship with nature and Naturalism.

The exhibition includes the arresting photography of Czech-born artist Jitka Hanzlová, whose work was short-listed for the Citibank photography prize in 2003; Canadian-born artist Kara Hamilton’s interpretation of storms and their relationship with technology via The Weather Channel; a digital audio installation by Danish artist Mads Lynnerup and mixed media works by Mexican artist Gabriel Kuri.
