"Call for Artists: International Summer MFA Program "
2006-05-17 until 2006-06-15
Transart Institute, O.K. Center for Contemporary Art
Linz, , AT Austria

Transart Institute today announced the program for this years' summer residency. The ten workshops and seminars bring together students and faculty from more than a dozen countries spanning three continents. Workshops focus on Transparency, Memory, Voice, Documentation and Science in Art. Seminars investigate politics and art after 9/11, art as research and trans-disciplinary thinking across art, technology and cultural theory. New Location, New Cooperation!

Transart Institute has entered a cooperation with the O.K. Centrum in Linz, Austria. The renown O.K. Center for Contemporary Art, an innovative agency combining artist residencies, symposia and performances with museum level exhibitions including components of the Ars Electronica festival, will be the new home of the annual Transart Institute residency in July and August. Classes, performances, lectures, yoga, and student's graduate exhibitions will all take place in the award-winning architectural structure.

The socially-aware, experimental, process-oriented approach of O.K. Centrum is highly synergetic with TI's innovative strategy of a student-centered, self-created educational program for independent thinking and original artistic praxis.

Low-Residency Program

Balancing work, family and jobs is one of the most difficult challenges artists face. If students can establish a good, solid artistic praxis with the support of the program in their own environment, chances are the praxis will continue after the program. Students can come back after graduating to get a creative surge, receive feedback on their work and keep their praxis and contacts alive.

Each student creates his/her own educational experience by executing individually tailored art and research projects. The residencies provide common ground with a tightly interwoven pattern of lectures, critiques, seminars and creative workshops.

Transart Institute

Transart Institute, in cooperation with Danube University Krems, offers an international low-residency graduate art program leading to a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in New Media. Students create their own course of study working on art and research projects off-site with the support of faculty and self-chosen artist mentors. The independent study periods are complemented by three intensive summer residencies where lectures, critiques, seminars, performances, exhibitions, and workshops take place on-site in Europe as well as by optional winter residencies in New York. The low-residency format allows continuing a professional life while participating in the program. Main goals of the program are: Change and the development of an informed and vital artistic praxis. Some scholarships available.

Genres include: Animation, Architecture, Curatorial work, Cyber Art, Film / Video, Game Design, Graphic Design, Installation Art, Interactive Art, Interdisciplinary Art, Performance Art, Photography, and Sound / Music
