"Landscape: Japanese Photographer Taiji Matsue"
2006-05-31 until 2006-08-25
Cohen Amador Gallery
New York, NY, USA United States of America

The Cohen Amador Gallery is pleased to announce "Landscape", an exhibition of Japanese photographer Taiji Matsue's urban and non-urban landscape images. Born in Tokyo in 1963 Matsue originally pursued the study of geography at the University of Tokyo before transferring his analytic eye to the photographic arts. Devoid of horizons, suffused in an almost tactile grey, Matuse's imagery appears constituted out of the marriage between the flatness of the photo paper and the materiality of the physical subject.

Matsue has shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Japan, Europe and the United States, including the Arles Rencontres in 2004. He has published numerous books of his work including 'Hysteric Glamour" in 2001, and was the recipient of the Higashikawa Prize in 1996 and the Kimura Ihei Memorial Photography Award in 2002.

His photographs are included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
