"Lumen Mortale - Mortal Light: Larissa Morais"
2006-06-03 until 2006-08-05
Glass Garage Fine Art Gallery
West Hollywood, CA, USA United States of America

Internationally celebrated Russian painter opens a solo exhibition at the Glass Garage Fine Art Gallery in West Hollywood, California on Saturday, June 3, 2006. The exhibition is comprised entirely of paintings of female nudes. However, "the pieces are not so much about bodies and beauty as they are about light and transience," explained Morais. "The works explore the inherent sadness of painting perfect bodies that will one day change and wither."

The exhibition is entitled "Lumen Mortale" (Latin for "Mortal Light"), an inversion of the Biblical phrase "Lux Eterna" ("Eternal Light"). Instead of the eternal light of the soul, the works exalt the fleeting light of bodily existence.

Morais was trained in Russia and has exhibited throughout Europe, North America, and Australia. Her work is included in significant private collections including that of the Brazilian Embassy in Moscow.

The "Lumen Mortal" exhibition will coincide with the 9th Annual ArtWalk, sponsored by the West Hollywood Avenues of Art and Design.

Larissa Morais has been a Premiere Portfolio Member at absolutearts.com since 2005. View more of her work at http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/l/larissamorais/.
