"Tina Newlove: Post-it notes, Forget-me-nots, Skeletons, and Quiet Spots"
2006-06-05 until 2006-07-15
Leonardo Gallery
Toronto, ON, CA Canada

Leonardo Gallery in Toronto presents Tina Newlove: Post-it notes, Forget-me-nots, Skeletons, and Quiet Spots through July 17, 2006. Tina Newlove states about her work, “My new work explores memories, moments and the cycles found in everyday living. The abstracts explore the patterns and sounds of the city, the park and my house. The post-it notes tend to be quick thoughts, quiet moments and things to remember. I paint mainly in oils on wood, canvas and paper. I assemble pieces with stitching (which binds my thoughts together), silver leaf (because it tarnishes), gold leaf (because it doesn’t), dictionaries, wood, bronze and fabric. "

She continues,"The weave in the fan, the stitching on the organ, the bowl of apples, the steady chug of the dishwasher and Tekno music thumping away in the background all contribute to my art-making practice. I find solace in quiet thoughts, self-reflection and ordered words. My paintings are like escaped ideas caught, coming together like a jigsaw puzzle or a world map. Ideas litter my mind like scraps of paper or buzzing flies. While I cherish the beautiful, the delicate, the detailed, the organic and the non-violent, I often paint my experience with violence, despair, the poor and war-torn.”

Tina Newlove has pursued her art career with fervor, intelligence and dedication. Since 1993 Tina’s paintings have been accepted into over fifty juried exhibitions both nationally and internationally as well as receiving awards within the exhibitions. In January 2005 Tina received the “Frank Faubert Memorial Award for Art” which is also a purchase award by the City of Toronto for their permanent collection. In the last four months, Tina has received a Juror’s Choice Award, a Sponsor’s Choice Award and an Honorable Mention as well as being included in an invitational exhibition supported by the Ontario Arts Council.

Tina’s paintings in this exhibition of new work will entice the viewer with beautiful colors, startle them with harsh reality and leave them with the impression of a vision. To view more of Tina’s paintings, please visit www.tinanewlove.com.
