"Nostalgia Nostalgia: Cate Collopy"
2006-06-30 until 2006-07-25
RM Galleries
Brisbane, QL, AU Australia

“Swishyswoom “ is the title of one of Cate Collopy’s works in her exhibition entitled “Nostalgia Nostalgia”, at RM Galleries, opening night on Friday 30th June at 6pm. In this piece, there is a glorious vampy lady from the 1960’s rushing towards us, from the blue green and murky waves of the ocean. She is emerging from the water with a huge smile which says it all, “Swishyswoo, that was fun!”. In this exhibition, Collopy combines her love of experimental mixed media with found objects and the human element for which she is well known. Collopy’s exuberant warm personality shines through in her sensitive works which capture her relationship with images that are evocative of the 50’s & 60’s, and present day surroundings.

A delightful set of small works entitled, “My River” is testament to that, as she describes the scene from her kitchen window. Collopy’s work shows a refinement and maturity which is strongly developed in this exhibition.

For collectors of Cate Collopy’s work , this show is sure to delight and is a good example of this talented artist’s work, which combines her love of nostalgia with a fresh modern approach.
