"To a Promised Land: Marieke Kruger"
2006-08-16 until 2006-09-09
Bell-Roberts Art Gallery
Cape Town, , ZA South Africa

In this exhibition at Bell-Roberts Art Gallery in Cape Town, entitled To a Promised Land, Marieke Kruger creates multidimensional and ambiguous spaces that draw both the poetic and everyday into an imaginative conceptual interplay. Kruger explores the possibility of bringing about a dialogue between identity, womanhood and a sense of belonging through the mediums of porcelain, etching, digital and litho prints combined with charcoal and pastel drawings.

Marieke Kruger's art making processes are lodged in a paradoxical and ambiguous interplay between the conscious and the sub-conscious where the interaction between images, media and materials creates a rich variety of multiple meanings through playful and interactive poetic exchanges.

Ms Kruger has held one solo exhibition, participated in 17 group exhibitions (two of these international), two residencies in Belgium and was most recently selected as a finalist in the prestigious ABSA Ateljee competition.
