"4th International Art Festival - Chania 2006: Features NanoArt by Cris Orfescu"
2006-11-02 until 2006-11-15
Omma Center of Contemporary Art
Crete, , GR Greece

Under the aegis of the prefecture of Chania, Omma Center of Contemporary Art presents the 4th International Art Festival from November 2 to November 15, 2006 at the Old Customs public exhibition center in the Old Town of Chania, Crete, Greece. The exhibition space is over 4000 square meters in area. This is the largest annual art exhibition in Chania and one of the largest in Greece and features works in all media, including painting, mixed media, sculpture, photography, digital art, video art, installations. Participating with his NanoArt is Cris Orfescu who has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist since 2004.

NANOART is a reflection of the technological movement and is a more appealing and effective way to communicate with the general public and to inform people about the new technologies of the 21st Century. NanoArt is intended to make the public aware of Nanotechnology which deals with the synthesis, manipulation and characterization of matter at the sub-100 nanometers level.

Cris Orfescu

(www.absolutearts.com/nanoart) brings the small world in front of his audience through high resolution electron microscope scans of natural micro or nanostructures and nanosculptures he creates by physical or/and chemical processing. He paints and manipulates digitally the monochromatic electron images and prints them with archival inks on canvas or fine art paper. This way, the scientific images become artworks and could be showcased for a large audience to educate the public with creative images that are appealing and acceptable. NanoArt is not Photography. The depth and three dimensions achieved in NanoArt sets this process of electron imaging apart from Photography, where images are created by photons (particles of light) rather than by electrons (electrically charged particles). The electrons penetrate deeper in the structure creating images with more depth, more natural 3D-look than the photographic images.
