"The Girl's Room: By The Dreier Project"
2006-12-20 until 2007-01-13
Jen Bekman
New York, NY, USA United States of America

The Dreier Project, a not-for-profit arts organization based in New York City, announced today the exhibition of The Girl’s Room which opened at jen bekman, 6 Spring Street New York, NY on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 and remains on view through Saturday, January 13, 2007. The Girl’s Room is the inaugural show for The Dreier Project. The Girl’s Room is an art show featuring work done by an international group of female artists. Each artist submitted several small pieces, each framed with an 8.5x11 frame. By keeping all the work at a consistent size, we can view the work without size or prominence on the wall being an issue.

It allows for the viewer to see the work without the material being the message. The artwork itself will be the message and perhaps answer some questions about the place of women’s artwork in the art world. Questions such as: What sort of work are women artists creating? How does it differ from men’s art? Are there particular subjects, methods and materials women artists are working with? What role does gender play in artwork? And regardless of any “political” agenda, sometimes its fun to get the girls together and see what’s on our minds.

The show will feature the following artists: Aiyana Udesen, Alice Wells, Alika Cooper, Amy Rice, Amy Ross, Bianca Buchanan, Candace Gottschalk, Caroline Hwang, Carol Tessitore, Chloé Derderian, Christa Donner, Dana Miller, Dee Dee Cheriel, Elizabeth Huey, Esther Pearl Watson, Esther Sanchez, Jacqueline Bovit, Jacqueline Di Milia, Kate and Camilla, Katrin Reifeiss, Kelly Ording, Lily Gilbert, Mara Bodis-Wollner, Mari Dogami, Maya Hayuk, Misaki Kawai, Monica Canilao, Pearl C Hsiung, Rachel Salomon, Robin Cameron, Stephanie Davidson, Swoon, Tema Stauffer, Ye Rin Mok, Youngna Park

About the Dreier Project

The Dreier Project exists in a nomadic state, with exhibitions moving from space to space. Our goal is to bring the art of the moment to the public through exhibitions and publications. The inspiration for The Dreier Projects comes from its namesake- Katherine Dreier. Katherine Dreier was an artist and curator who held art openings with her partners Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray. Hopefully, the spirit of her early art shows will permeate though the projects undertaken by The Dreier Project.

Board members include: Chloé Derderian, Melissa Matlins and Elissa Jane Mastel.
