"LA Ethos: On Location at Pharmaka"
2007-01-11 until 2007-02-28
Pharmaka
Los Angeles, CA, USA United States of America

Pharmaka Art Presents LA Ethos: On Location at Pharmaka There are many questions that are raised when different publications announce that LA is the new center of the art world. Is there a definable „style‰ for LA? Is there an underlying narrative or subject being explored by LA artists? What trends are apparent stylistically? What questions are LA artists asking themselves? Pharmaka Art will address these questions with art. The walls of the gallery will be covered with canvas and LA artists will be asked to work, in public, on these walls, in response to the questions. This collaboration begins in January 5 and runs through February 28th.

The participating artists include: Fumiko Amano, Don Bachardy, Jeff Britton, Randall Cabe, Christopher Cousins, Stanley Dorfman, Tim Forcum, GERMS, Shane Guffogg, Laura Hipke, Doro Hofmann, Patricia Howard, Tim Isham, Donald Krieger, Campbell Laird, David Loyd, Heather Lowe, Maureen Maki, Christopher Monger, Richard Montoya, Ivan Morley, Andy Moses, Ana Osgood, Albert Reyes, Michael Rosenfeld, Robert Rossoff, Luke Rothschild, Paul Ruscha, Michael Salerno, John Scane, Vonn Sumner, David Trulli, Alison Van Pelt, Alissa Warshaw, Daniel Wheeler, and more.

This educational program at Pharmaka Art is supported in part by the Dale and Edna Walsh Foundation, the Joelson Foundation, and ROARK.

PHARMAKA is a Greek word that means to paint or an artist‚s colors. It also means a poison or remedy. The name was chosen because its roots are in ancient Greece, the cradle of Western civilization, and it speaks to the duality inherent in all things. PHARMAKA Art has been incorporated as non-profit, and will also include exhibitions that might otherwise fall into the void between commercial Galleries and Museums. Respected curators and a variety (including internationally acclaimed artists) will be invited for curatorial collaborations.
