The Muse at 269 is pleased to welcome an exhibition of unique photography from the architect responsible for designing The Muse at 269, Cezary Bednarski. The London based Studio Bednarski ltd, winner of the main prize in the Design for an Emerging World – Future Communities Project category at Cityscape 2006 in Dubai will be showing for the first time, the research photographs and support material of their winning Kariobangi South Community Project in Nairobi.
The digital colour photography documents the community’s current dwellings and the building materials commonly used. From abstract shots of corrugated iron to portraits of the people, the photographs are not only a documentation of African life, but also inspirational tools for the problem-solving architect. The exhibition provides a fascinating insight into the architectural thought process in the creation of a new sustainable living environment for a community; A community that urgently needs to be enriched by such a radical fresh approach to avoid the slum situation of KIBERA, as seen in last years film, ‘The Constant Gardener’, which Cezary Bednarski also surveyed and photographed.
Cezary Bednarski said: the project is aimed at preventing the birth of another slum. We are working with the community of KARIOBANGI SOUTH using Architecture as a toll of change. Our business is Architecture; intelligent, purposeful and graceful Architecture. Could such Architecture help in changing the social and economic standing of the urban poor and creating a sustainable community?
