Galerie Rubens in Brussels is exhibiting work by Pol Ledent from March 18 to April 8, 2007. Pol Ledent in an autodidactic painter. He began his artistic endeavors with watercolors but quickily changed to oil painting in 1990. He painted, and paints still, many landscapes of the Famenne region, and also from the Ardennes. However currently he has involved himself in the in the direction of a personal interpretation of feminine beauty and abstract painting. Pol Ledent has been a Premiere Portfolio Member at absoltuearts.com since 2001.
Through Ledent's paintings we find ourselves on the banks of the Lesse or the Maas, in the depths of the woods, on a piece of land at the edge of a meadow, on a hill with a view of hawthorns and bremstruiken, on a plain of tender greeness, int he summer light, or in the middle of a spring explosion of friut trees. Then there are also the landscapes where the autumn has the unexpected colours of the leaves in the trees, or of the air, or in the winter, as the snow penetrates. All this one finds in the paintings by Pol Ledent, nature's portrait of the region where he was born: the Famenne. Nature that is reflected with sensitivity and love that Pol Ledent has for this piece of ground. A small Eden.
The paintings by Pol Ledent transcend the modes and are likely all to pass to posterity, because they do not belong to the figurative genre in the actual sense of the word. The experts will label his work, however, as postimpressionism, but they also deserve a romantic label, because of the deep sensitivity the painter has for nature and all its aspects.
