Indepth Arts News: "Call for Aritsts: Cartasia , International Paper Festival - Biennale of Contemporary Art" 2007-05-10 until 2007-06-22 Metropolis Lunata, , IT Italy
Metropolis is an organisation set in Lucca pursuing cultural and artistic purposes. One of their main projects, Cartasia, is an open air exhibition of paper and cardboard big sculptures. Particular attention is given to paper as a by product. Since its birth, year 2003, Cartasia has been always hailed with great enthusiasm. Cartasia is a two-yearly event, and has reached huge quality proportions throughout the years. Art director is worldwide famous French sculptor Nicolas Bertoux.
Cartasia 2007, International Paper Festival, Biennale of Contemporary Art is composed by: International contest of sculpture in paper and cardboard, open air exhibit in the old part of Lucca of the works selected, called ěThe City of Paperî; photographic displays of the history of paper in Tuscany; cultural events (dance, theatre, music, readings..).
The artists will make these large paper sculptures in collaboration with the paper companies. The City of Paper is the story of a region told by artists using paper: its primary product.
