The Blindarte contemporanea is pleased to announce The Uninhabited, Simon Keenleyside solo show from May 29 until September 30 2007. The English artist presents in the gallery new paintings of large dimensions. The central theme of Keenleyside artworks continues being the landscapes of the places in which he has grown up, the places of his childhood: Essex in England. These are marginal sites, sometimes considered on the periphery, where a lot of today‚s youth, like the artist during his childhood and adolescence, have found and still use as a refuge.
The artist depicts these places with a surprising ability to reveal the mystery and the plots that surround them, not only evoking through his paintings physical places, but also the mental state, wishes and anxieties that has accompanied him during his way to reviving the discovery of this territory today.
Keenleysides landscapes, in between dream and reality, are defined by the painting that overcomes materials and becomes landscape itself. Behind an apparent fairy-tale innocence it is hidden a strong capacity of the painting, through the artists private experiences, to bring back the childish hidden fantasies, so once again living the related emotions.
Simon Keenleyside exposed in different exhibition spaces and galleries like Rokeby, London; Mogadishni, Copenhagen; Studio Cannaviello, Milan; Standpoint, London, Taka Ishii, Tokyo; Moti Hasson Gallery, New York. In 2002, after finished studies at the Royal College of Art in London, he won the BOC Emerging Artist Award and in 2004 the Lexmark European Art Prize. His artpieces are already in important collections like BOC group, Comme des Garcons, Hiscox, Marsh Mclennan, Mario Testino, Blindarte.
