An Exhibition of Chinese Opera Paintings by Harry Weisburd. is on exhibit at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, 388 Ninth Street, Suite 290, Oakland, California. The exhibition runs from June through December, 2007, and the galleries are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The tradition of Chinese Opera goes back at least 200 years. The style of opera of singing depended on the dialect spoken , either Mandarin or Cantonese. Each city also had it's own style of scenic design and lighting.

In the earliest days of the opera, only men performed including women's parts. Most training in opera began at the early age of 6.
Today women also now perform in the opera. Today a Chinese Opera singer , not only must be a good singer but excell in dance, acrobatics and movements of Kung Fu.
Harry Weisburd's painting of the Chinese Opera are painted in watercolor on canvas. Mr. Weisburd has been very influenced encouraged to create these paintings from the Chinese Opera he has viewed direct from China on cable TV.
