Controlled Spontaneity: Works by Andrew Ina, an exhibition of nonrepresentational textural paintings, will be on view at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, Ohio from July 18 though Aug. 24. An opening reception for the artist will be held Thurs., July 19 from 6-8pm in Dublin Arts Council’s main gallery. The exhibition and the artist’s reception are free of charge and the public is invited. Andrew Ina combines abstract expressionist mark making with the precise color placement of a high illusionist painter. Each work starts with a vigorous application of gesso to the panel.
Once the field of texture is assembled and dry, the artist returns to the painting with color. Illusionary techniques enhance the natural nuances of texture and result in a mysterious and rich surface. In creating these paintings, Ina attempts to create harmony between physicality and illusion, spontaneity and control, activity and stillness.
Ina, a 2006 graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, has artworks in a number of private and corporate collections. He was named 2007 Emerging Artist by The Winter Park Art Festival in Winter Park, Fla., and has been featured in nearly a dozen group, solo and juried exhibitions in the last year.
