Indepth Arts News: "Young Contemporaries 2007: The Many Expressions of Young India" 2007-09-08 until 2007-09-18 Aakriti Art Gallery Kolkata, WB, IN India
The show exemplifies the shifting dynamics of art practices highlighting the divergent tendencies that developed due to the rub-off effect of globalization. The exhibition would give viewers to glean the new idiom of modernity growth curve and for artists a fresh perspective to absorb thought processes of their peers. Indian art has come a long way from its overly romanticised visual language-giving rise to several tributaries of trends. Although visual expressions among younger generation artists still heavily leans on metaphoric narratives, eroticism, deconstruction and abstract expressions we are expecting to see a novel visual grammar evolving. It re-affirms the fact that Indian contemporary art is now traversing a fluid stylistic path and the idea that art practices of the East and the West maintain strict geographical binaries, no longer exists anymore.
