Indepth Arts News: "Terrence Gasca, Joshua Flint and Mark Bailey: New Works" 2007-10-01 until 2007-10-31 Lawrence Gallery Portland, OR, USA United States of America
Each artist has a distinct voice and vision, while also sharing a lively and accurate style marked by concise and descriptive brush work, inventive palettes, and a mastery of design. Gasca’s cityscapes glow with artificial light and the bold geometry of the urban environment. The evolution of his work over the past decade has been marked by a shift to the painterly, as he works to break limitations and become more expressive. For Flint, the process of growing, opening and learning has led him to new and increasingly conceptual subjects. Known for his emotive portraits, Flint will be introducing a collection of figurative paintings exploring elements of storytelling, symbolism, and pattern. Bailey strives to capture enjoyable moments in urban interiors and cityscapes through his use of light and color. His unique palette and lush application of paint fluently describe the ambience of his chosen settings.
Terrence Gasca graduated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA in 2001. He has shown his work in many solo and group shows throughout San Francisco and Portland. Most recently Gasca completed a commission for the Junior Achievement non-profit organization.
Joshua Flint graduated from the Academy of Art University in 2002, and has also studied with Carolyn Anderson in Taos, New Mexico, and at the China Academy of Arts. He is an associate member of the Oil Painters of America, and was recently featured in Southwest Art Magazine in the article “Ten Artists on the Rise in 2006.”
Mark Bailey received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in 2005. He has participated in several group exhibitions in San Francisco.
New Works will feature between 10 and 15 new oil paintings by each artist. The paintings include figurative subjects, cityscapes, and urban interiors in both large and small scales. The artists’ common background and continuing affinity is apparent, as is their enthusiasm for each other’s work. However, it is the unique and exciting paths they have forged to express themselves using the timeless medium of oil paint that is unmistakable.
