Indepth Arts News: "NY Arts Beijing to Present Works Including Keith Morant and Melanie Prapopoulos" 2007-11-29 until 2007-12-02 Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair 2007 Istanbul, , TR Turkey
A rising star in the world of art fairs, Contemporary Istanbul has established itself as one of the most dynamic and promising art events in the region. Between November 29 - December 2, this years edition of Contemporary Istanbul, will host more than 70 galleries from across the globe, as well as a wide range of events, including roundtable discussions, concerts, and performance art, alongside cutting-edge contemporary art by more than 350 artists. NY Arts Beijing is pleased to present 13 artists at the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair ’07 curated by Tchera Niyego. Participating artists are; Gulay Alpay, Theodor Barr, Fuge Demirok, Carmen Einfinger, Chen Fei, Nadiya Jinnah, Olle Jonsson, Ayse Kucuk, Sol LeWitt, Keith Morant, Nacho Murillo, Karl Nussbaum, Melanie Prapopoulos and Milena Jovicevic Popovic. The fair will also host a wide range of events, including roundtable discussions, concerts, and performance art, alongside more than 2,500 works of cutting-edge contemporary art by more than 300 artists representing 35 nations, including Turkey, Greece, China, Germany, Israel, and many more.
Melanie Prapopoulos states: I believe that an artist has something to say or point out - and due to my studies in art history and literature of Latin America and the Caribbean, my work is greatly influenced by what I have seen or read. I also find that these areas of my interest offer an unique artistic language, which results in a diverse vocabulary for expression. This coupled with ideas of dance result in what I feel is an often ignored reality, one grounded in strong lines and the unexplainable - not just for the peoples of these regions, but in an universal sense.

Keith Morant comments: In trying to come to terms with my compulsion
to paint I have read deeply on the subjects of art,
artists, philosophy, psychology and human creative
history in general. It has been my desire to
comprehend not only the multifold meanings of art,
but also, more importantly, the reasoning behind
my own innate desire to create. My findings, while
certainly enriching my mind as to the necessity of
art as a natural balancing process of the collective
human psyche, has not given any satisfactory
explanations or conclusions as to my personal
predilection.
