ARTAMO GALLERY presents Paintings and Poems / Poems and Paintings, an exhibition of visual art and poetry and their stimulating influence on each other. On show are paintings that were inspired by a poem or a verse, and poems, whose creative impulse came from contemplating visual art. In some cases the artist and the poet are the same, one person, expressing thoughts and views simultaneously I words and matching image. Other visual art forms, such as photography and collage, paired with poems round off the show.

Participating artists and poets are Janet Bothne (artist), Gordon Huether (artist), Françoise Issaly (artist and writer), David Krieger (poet, co-founder and president of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation), E.M. Laskowski-Caujolle (writer), Perie Longo (Santa Barbara Poet Laureate), Jack N. Mohr (artist and designer), Michael Moon (artist), Julia Pinkham (artist), Michelle Rhea (photographer and poet), Suha Sin (artist), David Starkey (poet), and Norton Wright (artist).

Paintings & Poems / Poems & Paintings is presented by Artamo Gallery, located at 11 West Anapamu Street in the historic art district of downtown Santa Barbara, California, and is open from December 6 to 30, 2007.

A reception with artists and poets will be held on Thursday, December 6, from 5 to 8 PM.

Many of the artists and poets, including the current Santa Barbara Poet Laureate, Perie Longo, will attend the reception. Artists will explain their work, poets will read their poems. In addition to live music entertainment, featuring poet David Starkey on guitar and former Santa Barbara Poet Laureate Barry Spacks, singing the blues, champagne and chocolate will be served.

Gallery hours: Wednesday–Sunday, 12:00–5:00 PM, First Thursday until 8:00 PM
