Indepth Arts News: "Through Her Eyes: Melanie Prapopoulos" 2007-12-17 until 2007-12-31 Broadway Gallery New York, NY, USA United States of America
"Myth Translated" is a series of figurative charcoal and pastel drawings inspired by Afro-Cuban myths. "Shatterings of Light on Paper" are acrylic-on-paper paintings, representing the penetration of light - or hope - through darkness.
Melanie Prapopoulos comments: "I believe that an artist has something to say or point out - and due to my studies in art history and literature of Latin America and the Caribbean, my work is greatly influenced by what I have seen or read. I also find that these areas of my interest offer an unique artistic language, which results in a diverse vocabulary for expression. This coupled with ideas of dance result in what I feel is an often ignored reality, one grounded in strong lines and the unexplainable - not just for the peoples of these regions, but in an universal sense."
