"Flavia Da Rin: Eyes Wide Open"
2008-01-01 until 2008-02-28
Speed Art Museum
Lousiville, KY, USA United States of America

The Speed Art Museum is proud to present Louisville with an exciting contemporary installation that will entice, excite and provoke the senses. Stepping outside its museum walls, the Speed has commissioned Argentinean artist Flavia Da Rin to create 10 images to be placed on 14x48 foot billboards around Louisville beginning January 1, 2007 and continuing through February 2008. Manipulating her images with "Photoshop" Da Rin creates fairytale-like pictures that are both enchanting and disquieting. While Da Rin's images will create a gallery outdoors, a web site will provide access to information and engage the participation of the viewer creatively, as well as in discussions about art, both inside and outside the museum.

Exhibition support in Louisville has been provided by CBS Outdoor, SMLXL, Tyler Allen and USA Image Technologies, Inc., Zender Associates, Dr. Gregory Bays Brown, Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, Brook and Pam Smith, Dr. S. P. Auerbach, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Ballantine, Matthew and Brooke Barzun, David and Dale Hyman, Stephen Reily and Emily Bingham, Larry Shapin and Ladonna Nicolas, Virginia Speed, Rick Heath and Merrily Orsini, Sandy and Bill Schreiber, Pat Stallard, Sarah and Chuck O'Koon, and Spencer and Claude Berry.

A national leader in arts education, serving over 30,000 children each year, the Speed Art Museum has repeatedly been voted Kentucky's best museum and is considered one of the top ten sites each Kentuckian should visit. The Speed honors its mission to bring great art to our communities through its distinguished collections and as the Commonwealth's number one venue for international art exhibitions.

Rated one of the top ten audio guides in the country by MSNBC.COM, "Passport to the Speed," offers insight into selected works in the collection, and is available for free at the Museum's Welcome Center. The Speed Art Museum: Highlights from the Collection, a new companion guide to the Speed's distinguished collection will be available January 2008.
