Broadway Gallery is pleased to announce Fly, a solo exhibition of the Italian artist Vincenzo Montella, and curated by Basak Malone. Based in Naples, Montella’s day job is as a psychiatrist, while his life’s passion is art. An innovative photographer and digital artist whose Pop images resonate with a popular consciousness steeped in TV, cartoons, news, urban life, and the conflicts of today’s modern world, Montella utilizes Broadway Gallery as a forum to present his newest series of work focused on the popular Commedia dell’Arte figure, Pulcinella. Vincenzo Montella has been a Premiere Portfolio at absolutearts.com since 2001 and his gallery, Il Ramo d'Oro in Naples, Italy, promotes his work along with several other artists with a Gallery Portfolio at absolutearts.com.

A classic character from the classic 17th-century theatrical form, Pulcinella has since become a stock character in Neapolitan puppetry. Dressed in white with a black mask, he represents life and death. His traditional temperament is vicious and crafty; his main mode of defense is to pretend to be too stupid to know what's going on. In the end, the figure is an archetype of humanity.

Montella’s interest in this figure demonstrates his connection to the culture of his native Naples. He uses the figure as a mode to represent difficult existential situations, as well as the realms of fantasy and imagination–themes of ongoing interest in his oeuvre. The resulting Pop-influenced images reveal the artist’s mythical and poetic range of vision, as well as his uniquely Neapolitan outlook.
