Indepth Arts News: "Jordi Rollan" 2008-02-15 until 2008-04-10 Hotel del Arte Barcelona, , ES Spain
Hotel Estela Barcelona and World Gallery invite you to the exhibition of the artist Jordi Rollan to be held at the emblematic Art Hotel during the months of February and March. Jordi Rollan is an artist born and based in Barcelona, a self-made artist. He's broad and extensive curriculum is supported by a non-less extensive bibliography resulting for his participation in numerous exhibitions. This is a creator with a large projection in countries of central and northern Europe; one of his most remarkable exhibitions is the one which he held in 2006 at Artis Gallery in Zug (Switzerland), which under the title "Great Catalan Masters", brought together works by Rollan and Salvador Dali. The work of Rollan sits at the threshold between abstraction and figuration, moving fluently at that limit. We could say that his work comes from an inspiration in which premium softness of abstract is gradually being supported by mild figurative elements to form a work clearly positioned in the aforementioned point between figuration and abstraction, although some of his creations never transcend the limits of pure abstraction.
It would seem that the figurative elements that Rollan introduces in his canvases, are born as a result of the use of colour and rounded shapes overlapping to situate the viewer with the figure.
The result is a highly successful and daring work, full of feeling and dynamism, which from the combination of chromatic ranges, the artist creates his patient and serene characters who pose in front of the observer.
These characters are shown in static attitudes as a counterpoint to the dynamism offered by colourful spaces in which abound ranges of red, blue, green and ochre, providing balance to the set.
A work whose strength and character will be appreciated in this interesting exhibition, where the artist will assist.
As usual, after the opening ceremony the dinner menu Jordi Rollan will be served, prepared by the department of Food & Beverage of the artistic Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel.
