"Wild Life/ Wildlife: An Artist's Response"
2008-03-25 until 2008-05-04
Gallery at Mount Ida College
Newton, MA, USA United States of America

How does the artist express the essence of Wild Life/ Wildlife as a paradox, the perfect and the imperfect, order and disorder? Does the word wildlife still hold its original meaning or has human interaction destroyed what is truly wild? Come explore this topic at The Gallery at Mount Ida's exhibit, Wild Life/Wildlife, from March 25-May 4, 2008. Come explore the human condition of life in its wild state, and compare the disorder and incivility of the natural world through the eyes of artists from across the nation. Participating artists include Roberly Bell, Resa Blatman, Karen Bondarchuk, Edie Bresler, Stephanie Cardon, Elli Crocker, Donna Dodson, Gary Duehr, Lauren Evans, Fran Forman, Ellen Jantzen, Elissa Katler, Jennifer Layzer, Lucinda Luvaas, Carl Marin, Winifred McNeill, Katherine McVety, Julia Gail Oldham, Alya Romeos, Julia Shepley, Vaughn Sills, Deborah Simon, Stasa Marcella, Jessica Straus, Robyn Voshardt and Sven Humphrey. Ellen Jantzen has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2003.

Ellen Jantzen comments about her work: "I don’t set out to make a specific image; rather, I choose physical elements and locations that I feel have a curious affinity for one another. I then purposefully place these elements together in ephemeral assemblages. My goal is to cultivate unexpected visual references with the potential to surprise. I photograph these set ups, then, using my computer, I layer, alter and manipulate the raw photos as I search for the new images within. "

The exhibition was curated by Professor and artist John Tricomi and Associate Professor, Gallery Director and artist Kathleen Driscoll.
