"Fragments of the Imagination"
2008-03-26 until 2008-04-16
Leonardo Gallery
Toronto, ON, CA Canada

Leonardo Gallery presents March 26 April 16, 2008 -- Fragments of the Imagination, new works by Marjolyn van der Hart. To remember is often a visceral experience. This new body of work entitled Fragments of the Imagination reflects van der Harts necessity to explore the concepts of memory. In particular, the artist is interested in exploring how our past experiences get reconstructed when triggered by the imagery from immediate surrounding. As compositions depict different, yet familiar episodes of daily life, such as strolling down the street, shopping or getting to and from work, each single motif serves as a vehicle to understanding and even retrieving the evoked. Also, van der Harts use of mixed media lends itself to this experience: by blending handmade and tissue paper, modeling paste and acrylic paint, she creates imagery that generates its own memory.

Marjolyn van der Hart is currently based in Toronto. She studied painting at Parsons School of Art and Design in New York City and received a BFA from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. She also holds a BA with honours degree in Mass Communications from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Currently Marjolyn works from her studio in the Distillery District in Toronto and travels through the US exhibiting in top art fairs across the country. She is represented by several galleries in Toronto and is in several corporate collections in North America.
