"Eleanor Gilpatrick: In the World"

Eleanor Gilpatrick's annual solo show, this year entitled "In the World, at Jadite Galleries, 413 West 50th Street in Manhattan, will run from May 2 through May 31, 2008. The show features a group of paintings that contrast the Iraqi war and other terrifying events with serene and beautiful scenes of American life. Gilpatrick states, "I hope people will connect with what is going on 'In The World,' the title of the show. In addition there will be other new works and some of my early work." Eleanor Gilpatrick has been a Premiere Portfolio artist at absolutearts.com since2004.

Gilpatrick continues, " I believe that my work is telling about the visual wonders the eye can see despite the chaos, corruption, distortion, and ugliness we confront in every-day life. My strengths are as a colorist with a strong sense of composition and a unique point of view. I rely on color theory and my own instincts to tell me what to do. I remain a representational painter because I am infatuated with how things look to me.

"While my subjects cover a wide spectrum of images, the paintings are unified by my eye, as beholder: a unique fragment of reality or the viewer's stance I choose. My landscapes reflect where I have been and what excites me. My people are intent on living their lives, unaware of the viewer. There is movement, intensity, energy, and an edge that is my personal "take."

"In September, 2007, I embarked on a new undertaking: to use my art to express my feelings about issues in the world. I use my realism to contrast what still reminds us of beauty with other, disturbing and terrifying aspects of the world: 21st century 'Sublime'. "
