"Body of Light: Works by Trisha Lambi"
2008-05-23 until 2008-06-05
Brunswick Street Gallery
Fitzroy, QL, AU Australia

Trisha Lambi, one of Queensland’s most distinctive figurative painters, will open her first Melbourne show at Brunswick Street Gallery in Fitzroy on Friday the 23rd May 2008 at 6pm. The show runs through to Thursday the 5th June 2008. Trisha Lambi’s work has been described as sensuous, dramatic, evocative and moody. She is a self taught artist who is inspired by light, particularly on the female form. Her earliest memory is of drawing for her great aunts as a very small child and it was always women she drew. Her figures were far more sophisticated than her years would predicate and her work now demonstrates a profound understanding of the female body both anatomically and spiritually speaking. Of her work, Lambi says ‘Light and its effect on form is my inspiration and whilst I don’t particularly aspire to convey a conscious emotion in my work it seems to emerge of its own will,’ says Lambi. Trisha Lambi has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2001.

Trisha’s latest body of work is a glorious celebration of the senses. Each painting is vibrantly alive with colour and texture. Simple compositions are used with the emphasis on dramatic lighting; creating striking and sensual narratives. Each piece is an occasion: something to revel in, and quite simply, to savour.

Viewers of the Body of Light exhibition will be treated to a mix of Trisha Lambi’s work from three series - added to the figurative series is a selection of paintings depicting dancers from the Queensland Ballet whose Artistic Associate, Robyn White kindly allowed Trisha to sit in on rehearsals to sketch and photograph the dancers in action. The third series focuses on seascapes often depicting her own children which she says provide a carefree respite from her intense devotion to the figurative pieces. The common denominator in all her work is the simplicity in both composition and palette coupled with dramatic lighting, and bold colour and texture.

It was always Trisha’s dream to be an artist, and after completing her secondary education, she began a Bachelor of Visual Arts, however the lure of money and independence proved too strong and she interrupted her studies to join the workforce. It wasn’t until the birth of her son in 1996 provided the catalyst to spur her on to pursuing a career in the arts. She painted when she could while looking after two small children and made the decision to turn professional in 2003 after she was invited to participate in the 2003 Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea held in Florence in Italy. Since then she has exhibited locally, interstate, and internationally, and interest in her work is growing. In December 2006 she was invited to join the Australian delegation of 14 artists to the 2006 Guangzhou International Art Fair in China. The delegation was curated by Fergus Tam and was endorsed by the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade). One of her pieces exhibited was selected by the Guangzhou International Art Fair Committee to represent Australia in all the promotional material for the event.

More recently she has exhibited in group shows in Sydney, Wollongong, and Melbourne as well as being selected for curated shows in Italy, the USA, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Lambi is represented by galleries in Brisbane, Sydney and Wollongong and in private collections in Australia, Spain, Cyprus, Germany, Ireland, China, Canada and the United States. An artist to look out for in the future as her works continue to sell and each series brings with it a fresh and interesting perspective on contemporary painting in the figurative/subjective genre.
