Indepth Arts News: "Call for Artists: International “Prokonessos” Marble Sculpture Symposium" 2008-06-05 until 2008-06-10 Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Marmara Island Marmara Island, , TR Turkey
The International “Prokonessos” Marble Sculpture Symposium has taken place since the year 1998, organised by the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Marmara Island Saraylar Municipality. The aim of the symposium is to contribute to Marmara Island with quality works of art. The 11
International “Prokonessos” Marble Sculpture Symposium will take place on the coast of Marmara Island, between July 23rd – August 23rd of 2008. The participating artists will be chosen by a jury appointed by the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts
University. The jury’s decision will be based upon the evaluation of the artists’ application
portfolios. At the end of the symposium, each artist will be given a certificate of participation signed
by Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and the Saraylar Municipality.
A total of six artists and two Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Sculpture Deparment
students will be participating in the symposium. One of the 8 artists will be a member of the
academic staff of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Sculpture Department, who will also be a
correspondent between the artists and the symposium committee. If the jury deems appropriate, the
participating artists may be less than 8 persons.
The material to be used is Marmara marble.
The symposium has no particular theme.
The sculptures created in the frame of the symposium will remain in the possession of the
Saraylar Municipality. The Saraylar Municipality also holds the rights of exhibiting these sculptures
in museums or in temporary exhibitions. The artist will allow filming and other documentation of
his/her work and the working process. The Saraylar Municipality and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts
University preserve the rights of using this material for publicity purposes.
The sculptures produced by the artists in the symposium will be placed in convenient
exhibition points suggested by the Saraylar Municipality and the Symposium Committee, and under
the supervision of the artist in the last 3 days of the symposium.
