The Florida Biennial is an exhibition that has grown from a local museum
member's exhibit into an important venue for artists across the state. As
the Museum of Florida Art continues to expand in scope and reach, the
Florida Biennial juried exhibition plays an vital part in this process by
providing exhibition opportunities to a variety of artists working in a
wide range of mediums. This year over 90 Florida artists provided
submissions for jury. 61 artists were chosen. The exhibition runs from
June 6 through August 24, 2008. The Florida Biennial IV was juried by
Frank Holt, Director of the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando,
Florida. Selected for the exhibition is Cecil Herring, who has marketed
her work with an absolutearts.com Portfolio since 2007

Distinguished jurors have curated exciting exhibitions over the years
that are both beneficial to the participating artists and to the public.
Selected artists often primere work in this exhibt. Discoveries of new
techniques and approaches to the creative process often occur with
exhibitors while the public is rewarded with a diverse collection of
imagery, mediums, and styles of artistic expression. This exposure can
lead to a greater appreciation of art in general or to increased interest
in a particular artist.
This year's juror is Frank Holt, Director of the Mennello Museum of
American Art in Orlando, Florida. As with previous jurors, Mr. Holt
brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his decision making.
Jurors are often introduced to new talent through this process which can
lead to further developments in an artist's career beyond to Florida
Biennial. Frank Holt will also give a gallery talk thus furthering an
aesthetic dialogue.
The educational potential for each Florida Biennial is another beneficial
aspect of these distinctive exhibitions. Any one of the mediums presented
is a starting point for learning more. This exhibit is scheduled to
coincide with the Museum of Florida Art's summer Camp Create for children
where they will be able to experience first hand creations done by
accomplished artists. This art exposure shows numerous fantastic
possibilities. Many times, the mediums used by exhibiting artists are
inspirational of student experimentation. Participating artists in the
Florida Biennial will many times offer demonstrations, talks or lead
workshops for young students and adults alike.
The Florida Biennial introduces the Museum of Florida Art, DeLand and the
surrounding area to many artists here for the first time. This venue
reaches out to more artists and museum visitors than any other exhibit on
our schedule. We would like to thank oue sponsors as well as all of
artists, who submitted work, congratulate all who were accepted and
welcome new visitors.
