"Juried Alumni Exhibition to Feature Work by Ruslan Khais"
2008-06-27 until 2008-07-27
Gallery 128, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
Philadelphia, PA, USA United States of America

A Juried Alumni Exhibition will be presented from June 27 to July 27, 2008 at Gallery 128, Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The juror for the exhibition is David R. Brigham, Ph.D., Edna S. Tuttleman Museum Director of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. This special exhibition features 74 graduates of the Academy and all artwork is for sale. Twenty-percent of all artwork sold will benefit the Alumni Annual Fund of the Academy. Ruslan Khais, who has been an absolutearts.com Premiere Portfolio Artist since 2005, was selected to exhibit his work "Midsummer".

Ruslan Khais states about his work, "For the last four years the landscape has been the predominant subject in my art. Shimmer of sunlight, coming trough the leaves and its ever-changing reflections in the water become the subject of my paintings. I am searching for pastoral images that have some sort of resonance rather than meaning.

"My fascination with light has started as an attempt to rethink the legacy of Pointillism, which in our time of the digital media and pixilation, has found a new frame of reference. Emphasizing the well organized chaos of colorful dots, stripes, seemingly mechanical brush marks and alluding to some aspects of digital photography, resulting in paintings with soft focus where the border between realistic image and abstraction are blurred.

"The way I want the painting to come out is more the way of trying to depict an image what is not about reality, but one that is some how in between the actuality of a scene and something that is in your head."
