"Paintings by Jessica Dunn and Pedro Corte Real"
2008-07-26 until 2008-08-26
Corte Real Gallery
Paderne, , PT Portugal

Corte Real Gallery in Paderne, Portugal presents a summer exhibition, "Paintings by Jessica Dunn and Pedro Corte Real", begun with an opening gala on July 26, 2008. Jessica Dunn's superb new collection of paintings evokes the sometime romantic, always evocative memories of past generations. Jessica has researched for months the colonial archives for stories and images. The exhibition captures the personalities and poignant moments of both family and work life. Jessica Dunn has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2001. Pedro Corte Real works draws on his early life in Africa, influencing both the subject matter and the sensuous choice of color. Painting in an honest way, he is now embarking on a major project illustrating a series of children's books to be published in London.

Jessica Dunn is a British artist, born in London in 1963. She comes from a theatrical background (her father is comedy actor Clive Dunn and her mother is actress Priscilla Morgan). In 1986 Jessica Dunn moved to the Algarve, where she now lives with her husband, José Ribeiro and two young daughters, Alice (11) and Lydia (8). Jessica has exhibited extensively across Portugal, at Galeria Cógito in Setúbal and at the Eaton Gallery in London. Her works are represented in various private collections in Portugal and abroad. In 2003 she exhibited at the Biennale Internazionale Dell´Arte Contemporanea, in Florence, Italy. She also featured in "HELLO!" magazine in 2005.

These latest oil paintings reflect Mediterranean life, a fascination with the sea, children swimming, intense sunlight, reflections in the water and vivid blues. Through brushstroke and colour the artist conveys a feeling of tranquillity, allowing the viewer a moment of pleasure and escapism, reflecting on childhood days in the sun and embracing happy carefree memories...lifting the spirits!
