"The Music of the Sea by Maria Assumpcio Raventos"
2008-10-17 until 2008-11-30
Hotel del Arte
Barcelona, , ES Spain

The exhibition of paintings by Maria Assumpcio Raventos entitled "The Music of the Sea", offers a selection of artworks very close to abstraction with a double theme: on one hand we find a sample whose leitmotif is the Sea, and on the other hand a series which refers to the world of Music. In perfect harmony with the marine environment surrounding Hotel Estela Barcelona - Art Hotel, facing the sea in the Port d'Aiguadol in Sitges. This exhibition opened on Friday, October 17 and may be visited throughout the month of November at the Sala Iris Gallery in the artistic hotel. Hotel del Arte promotes their exhibitions with a Gallery Portfolio at absolutearts.com.

The work of Maria Assumpcio Raventos continues on having that interesting synthesis of vitality and lyricism that facilitates its arrival to the profane audience as well as to the most expert. All this backed by her impressive curriculum and by the large number of awards from international competitions.

Many years have gone from her belonging to the Escola of Sant Cugat, where with Grau-Garriga, among others, she becomes a national point of reference - or perhaps global - in developing abstract tapestries. Contemporary of artists such as Tharrats, R‡fols-Casamada, Subirachs, MompŰ, Sempere, Argimon or AmËlia Riera, she plunges with them into the informalism research of the 60ís, giving as result works with a consistency and quality worthy of the great master that she has become over the years.

Her style is therefore a mix of thematic and technical mastery through poetry and softness, texture and collage, avant-garde and research, figuration supported by abstraction and vice versa, strong chromatism laid with subtlety, emphasizing in all her works a heavy matterical load. She has great control of the medium: tapestry, canvas, paper ... being, also, sublime master in the art of printmaking.

We face an opportunity to deepen into the trajectory of an artist belonging to that golden generation of geniuses that based on the informalism have been tracing the way forward in the avant-garde tendencies and beyond, which form the basis of many current artists.
