"GROTTO: An Exploration of Light - Works by Adam Morey"
2008-11-13 until 2008-12-31
DECORAZONgallery
Dallas, , USA United States of America

"GROTTO: An Exploration of Light", works by ADAM MOREYis on view Nov. 13 - Dec. 31, 2008 with an opening reception Friday November 14, 2008, 6-9pm at DECORAZONgallery in Dallas. Adam Morey is just as interested in the work that art does (establishing its presence and existence) as the work that you do (observing it). Adam's work revels in (and on) the edges of experience: those not-quite-there areas that straddle perceptive thresholds. As these boundaries shift for the observer-cognitive science proves that they are in constant flux-the art's voice can never be assumed to be a constant. Adam manifests these hushed conversations between the visible and the invisible within the surprisingly rich lexicon of transparency, translucency, and opacity immediately evident in his pieces.

Usually, light is used by art simply as a method by which the art is made observable to the viewer. Adam elevates light from simple and passive enabler of the observational process to a "material" indivisible from the art itself. However, as light transcends the concrete and physical components of the art, and so much relies on the instant of perception by the viewer, Adam asks: where is the "art" actually taking place?

Adam Morey is a visual artist working across the mediums of drawing, painting and sculpture. Born in Germany and raised in Texas, he currently lives and works in Las Vegas, Nevada. His work examines his interest of perceptual thresholds in a continual state of flux or inauguration. He holds a BFA in the visual arts from the University of Texas at Austin, and received his MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is a 2007 nominee for the Dedalus Foundation MFA Grant. His work has been exhibited nationally in Nevada, Texas and California.
