The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of small and medium-sized paintings by Virginia Holt. Produced in the mid-1960s, her works engage the raw energy of abstract expressionism with an honesty and intimacy of scale. “On these small surfaces, Holt distilled the core qualities of her larger body of work: color, shape, and energy. Shaped by the culture around her: rock and roll, literature, scientific advances, and mythological stories all loom large in her visual vocabulary.”
Born in Pittsburgh in 1915, Virginia Holt moved to Pasadena in 1925. In 1960 she enrolled at Pasadena Community College, later transferring to Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.
