"Recent Work by Collage Artist Cathy Horner"
2009-01-09 until 2009-03-02
Black Rooster Gallery
Marion, VA, USA United States of America

Recent work by collage artist Cathy Horner will be on ay in January and February at the Black Rooster Gallery. The exhibition will run through March 2, 2009. Horner combines vintage papers, photographs, found objects, and handmade papers with layers of paint and varnish to create her original collages on canvas, full of whimsy and a clever sense of humor. Also on display are a variety of limited edition prints made from Horner's collage art. Cathy Horner has been a Premiere Portfolio member at absolutearts.com since October 2008.

Horner's subject matter includes a quirky assortment of domestic scenes, people, robots, fairies, and anthropomorphic figures — all imaginatively executed with the kind of wit that leaves the viewer with a smile. She brilliantly blends images, textures, and color, and her dedication to detail is evident in her unique style of presentation, as even the backs of her canvases have been carefully covered with vintage text and imagery.

Born and raised in Maryland, Horner realized her passion to create at young age and has spent decades since exploring her talents. She is an accomplished solo guitarist, and now teaches music from her home in Johnson City, Tenn. Inspired by her 100-year-old farmhouse and a long-time appreciation for antiques and vintage objects, Horner found a new muse at age 48 when she began creating collages from her collection of images from old magazines, newspapers, and catalogs.

The Black Rooster Gallery, now managed by Leslie Brewer, promotes local and regional artists and crafts persons and is located in the General Francis Marion Hotel at 109 E. Main Street in downtown Marion, Virginia.
