First Street Gallery is hosting their 2009 National Juried Competition from June 23 - July 18, 2009. The juror will be Patterson Sims. Deadline for Entry is March 31, 2009. Patterson Sims is a freelance curator and writer who is Interim President of ICI, Independent Curators International. He was the director of the Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey from 2001-2008. His career as a museum professional includes serving from 1996 to 2001 as Deputy Director for Education and Research Support at The Museum of Modern Art, New York. He was Associate Director for Art and Exhibitions and Curator of Modern Art at the Seattle Art Museum between 1987 and 1996, and was, from 1976 to 1987, the first curator designated to oversee the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Mr. Sims began his career as Assistant Director of O.K. Harris Works of Art, in the then newly-developing art gallery district of Soho, in 1969. ELIGIBILITY
Open to all U.S. resident artists at least 18 yrs. of age. Exception: Artists currently represented by First Street Gallery.
Eligible entries include oil paintings, water media, pastels, graphics, prints and sculpture in any medium. No photography or film.
The width of work, including frame, may not exceed 30 inches. No height limit.
Maximum weight of sculpture: 50 pounds.
No wall hung sculpture. Sculptors must provide floor stand with a maximum footprint of 24" x 24".
ACCEPTANCE
Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the image entry, at the Juror's discretion. No substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. All accepted work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibit.
SALES
The gallery will take no commission on any work sold during the exhibition. Work need not be for sale (it may be marked "N.F.S."). No "P.O.R." sales.
