"Art Into Life/Life Into Art: Celebrating Women's History to Feature Eleanor Gilpatrick"

“Art into Life/Life into Art” invited contemporary artists to consider the reaction of artists in the 1960s to the modernist credo of “art for art’s sake.” This exhibition seeks art works that forge new connections between art and life in the 21st century. Curated by Midori Yoshimoto, associate professor of art history and gallery director at New Jersey City University. Eleanor Gilpatrick, who has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2004, will have her painting, "Casualty" included in the exhibition. “Art into Life/Life into Art” at Pen and Brush Gallery runs from March 5 through March 29, 2009.
This may be the most moving of Gilpatrick's series, "Issues of Our Time", that attempt through beautiful painting to connect Americans to the heartbreak of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Casualty" is based on a press photo by an unnamed Reuters stringer. A nine year old little girl was killed by a roadside bomb in Baquba, 40 miles northeast of Baghdad, February 12, 2008. The painting heightens the feelings the press photo evokes by virtue of the artist's strong rendering of her own connection to her subjects.
