2009 marks the 47th year of the most popular Arts and Crafts Street Festival in Palm Beach County running from April 17 through 19, 2009. The Delray Affair is held outdoors along the beautiful brick sidewalks and palm tree lined Atlantic Avenue. Each year the streets are opened to pedestrians only from Swinton Avenue to the Intracoastal Waterway. There's always something for everyone! Over 600 skilled artists, crafts & exhibitors. Included is the Eileen Seitz, who has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2000.
The 2009 Delray Affair Commemorative Poster was created by Artist Eileen Seitz.
Eileen Seitz was born in midtown Manhattan, June 28, 1951, growing up and living in New York City, her interests in drawing and painting began at the early age of eight years old. At age thirteen she won a first place award for an oil painting in a New York City street art show. At sixteen she sold her first painting to a New York City art dealer. Eileen studied Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and continued to develop her already gifted passion for drawing, oil painting and watercolors.
About the concept...
Seitz states, "Driving around Delray, I was looking for the "inspiration" as I happened to turn down this skinny little street I found behind Bankers Row. Once I reached the end I had to turn around and drive it again and again. I have lived in the Bahamas and the islands for many years and this row of houses brought me back to those times. I immediately FELL IN LOVE with the back yards of the row of little houses. Upon further searching I realized that it was not the best angle to do my drawing/painting so I ventured to the front of the row of little houses and fell in love all over again.
"I love architecture - architecture that has character, architecture that shows years and life experiences and when you walk inside the house you can feel the energy of those who passed through before. This street of houses I found on Bankers Row. The quaintness of the houses and the variety of colors, the small picket fences and the front yards. All of this gave me a sense of "village living" where neighbors know each other and say good morning and good day when they pass you on the streets. It is this style of living that so many of us wish we could be a part of.
