"Whole World Celebrates Together : Fang Ling-An"
2009-05-04 until 2009-07-12
Hyde Park Art Center
Chicago, IL, USA United States of America

Chinese artist Fang Ling-An creates the first sculptural installation in the Jackman Goldwasser Catwalk Gallery with her solo exhibition, The Whole World Celebrates Together on view from May 3 to July 12, 2009. The Whole World Celebrates Together aims to draw attention to the issues of international adoption practices, especially adoptions of Chinese children. Fang Ling-An promotes her work with a Portfolio at absolutearts.com.

Fang will create sculptures and a mural that symbolically represent the loss of culture and separation felt by the Chinese families of adopted children and often the infants themselves. Combined, the artworks depict morphing eastern and western cultures in a manner that requires the audience to think about the affects of globalization on cultural tradition.

Fang Ling-An is a Chinese-American artist born in Taipei (Taiwan). She graduated Magna Cum Laude from both Temple University, Tyler School of Art (BFA, 2003) and the University of Illinois in Chicago (MFA, 2005).
