Indepth Arts News: "Claudette Losier : Body Voyage – Return To The Sacred" 2009-06-03 until 2009-07-03 Arts Hamilton Hamilton, ON, CA Canada
“Body Voyage – Return to the Sacred” is a continuation of my journey of self-discovery of identity since graduating from Brock University in 1989. This body of work explored the notion of identity as it relates to the body, femininity, home, consciousness, emotions, and spirituality. I am currently returning to the swimmer image as a metaphor now for yoga meditation. This work was inspired by my underwater snorkeling pictures from 2004 Dominican trip and by the spiritual wisdom of my guru Paramahansa Yogananda. Yogananda’s writings and wisdom contains much symbolism of water for union with the Creator and Universal Consciousness identity. Like Yoga, snorkeling is a very peaceful and meditative activity that leaves one with a greater feeling of peace and oneness.
My water paintings in the pass described metaphorically life’s journey such as: drifting, keeping afloat, Venus, clam digging clan, storms, calmness, travel, mastery, well spring, erosion process, sea shells, etc. In this show I am using my experience of snorkeling to create works that speak specifically of yoga science such as restlessness, light floatation of the body, focus concentration on breath, vibrations, om, and meditative state of being one with the material matter world and beyond.
In the past I have won in Juried Shows in Ontario one award of merit for my swimmer drawing, and two best in show awards for my portraiture work, one in chalk pastel and the other using the transfer technique. In April 2009 I received another award of Honorable Mention for transfer art piece “Phantom Riders” by Toronto artists Mr. and Mrs. John Leonard. I have my art work selling at both the Burlington Art Centre Art Ectera shop and the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s Art Rental and Shop. I have been teaching art since 2006 at the following locations: the Sunrise Gallery, the Burlington Art Center, and the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington.

Claudette Losier will be exhibiting paintings in solo show entitled "Body Voyage - Return To The Sacred" at Arts Hamilton, Ontario, Canada from June 3rd to July 3rd, 2009.
The opening reception is on Friday June 5th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Losier will be displaying her oil paintings of swimmers and fishes. Claudette Losier has been a Premiere Portfolio Member at absolutearts.com since 2007.
