"Maximo Laura : Peruvian Tapestries AND Ruth Borgenicht : Stoneware Scuplture"
2009-06-11 until 2009-07-24
Translations Gallery
Denver, CO, USA United States of America

The exhibition at Translations Gallery will showcase a traditional weaving technique of tapestry alongside a progressive woven sculpture technique. Maximo Laura's work is a fusion of traditional tapestry and contemporary style with three-dimensional representations of Andean mythological themes drawn from Peru's rich history of pre-Columbian cultures such as the Incas and their modern day descendants. Translations Gallery promotes their artists with a Gallery Portfolio at absolutearts.com

Ruth Borgenicht uses the chain mail pattern and other woven patterns to create ceramic works that conjure up a sense of permanence and defensive concealment. Worn under Medieval armor, chain mail is made of a fabric of tiny interlocking metal rings designed to protect a body in motion. Her stoneware sculpture can be moved and manipulated into various shapes, resulting in multiple art pieces from one form.
